Of all the stars in the gospel firmament, few have shone brighter or more enduringly than Doctor Albertina Walker. In fact, her personal history reads almost like the story of Gospel music itself. As a young women, she was the protege and confidante of Gospel legend Mahalia Jackson. Her career has spanned four decades and beyond and she has seen the release of more than 60 albums. She has received every music award imaginable including Grammy, Stellar and GMWA awards. She has packed churches and concert halls from coast to coast and sold countless records. With a career of over 55 years, she is undisputedly recognized as a pioneer of Gospel music, "The Queen of Gospel.
Albertina Walker, hailed as the Queen of Gospel, was born in 1929 in Chicago, IL. At the age of four, Albertina began singing in the Children’s Choir of the West Point Baptist Church. She sang with the Williams Singers and toured with Willie Webb and the Robert Anderson Singers. In 1951, at just twenty-two years of age, Ms. Walker organized her own group, the world famous Caravans. Albertina’s discovery of new talent rightfully earned her the title The Star Maker. The Caravans launched the careers of many major gospel music stars. After a stellar career with the Caravans, Albertina went on to a phenomenal success as a solo artist in 1975. She has recorded over 60 albums and is committed to the preservation of gospel music and the enhancement of the human experience. Ms. Walker’s personal and television appearances worldwide are too numerous to mention. Albertina’s gift in music ministry and unselfish commitment to humanity for over six decades have earned her many awards and honors.
